Steve is a very talented designer and illustrator, who approaches problem-solving with great creative energy and originality. His contributions to our products stand out as fresh and clever in their approach. Even more important is that Steve is incredibly hard-working and determined. It was a pleasure to have him on my team.
When confronted with a thorny problem that presented him with new challenges, Steve would just figure out what had to be done and do it -
whether it was a new piece of software to learn or a complicated editorial concept to interpret visually.

Steve's talent as an artist is evident to anyone, but Steve is much more than just a good artist. He is also an excellent collaborator. Steve pays great attention to detail on any project he works on. His concern is never just for his own part of any project, but how what he's doing will affect the project as a whole.
In one case, a group of us were going over the pages of a textbook chapter in progress, and it was Steve who pointed out that the caption for a photograph was phrased awkwardly. Steve's purpose in being in the meeting was to give feedback on the art, but rather than ignore the rest of the discussion, he stayed engaged and gave good editorial feedback as well. Steve also brings a good sense of humor to his work and his life. His presence makes working on any project an enjoyable endeavor.
